One of the downfalls of being eco friendly in the winter is the battle for warmth, my freezing fingers and toes eagerly willing me to acquire 40 fan heaters (and point them at my face in an unbroken circle around me in order to stay warm) yet my green head and heart telling me to wear another coat.
As I sit with my legs draped over the oil filled plug in radiator, cup of tea in hand, hat, scarf, coat and gloves on I realise the best way to keep warm in winter is to share energy with our fellow fashionistas. And so our winter shopping extravaganzas were born.
Last week some of you were lucky enough to come to the Atelier for our first ever festive party dress event “A dress not just for Christmas”
Please note the steamy windows… the first time our atelier has been warm without the aid of artificial energy in weeks. Heaven. The organic cava and delicious nibbles by Something from Sarah helped too.
Some of our favourite sustainable designers gathered to sell their wares, we were peddling our new winter weight peace silk hand printed scarves. What a treat… if you want one (they make fantastic presents and are incredibly warm) go to our new fangled buy-on-line site here. Mine has not been removed from my neck for over a week.
Yes that is a mans tie you see there! Our newest venture, but not available to buy on line, these are made to order with a few limited edition pieces available now from the atelier. If you ask me very nicely. Plus some gorgeous broaches from JBD london available from the atelier too. Make an appointment here.
In desperation for some kind of warmth, our next event, this weekend, is something the atelier has never been associated with before. Cheap and cheerful BARGAINS. Yes, it is true, we have lowered our very high couture standards and we are allowing the proletariat of fashion (all be it ethical fashion) into the atelier for 4 DAYS ONLY. Doors open at 11am today, prices are low (most garments are £5, £10 or £20) and there is a lot of stock from the best ethical designers in London, including our favourite jersey girls Nancy Dee, the delectable Outsider, Coat queen Cecilia Hammarborg, vegan bags from Bourgeois Boheme and the gone but not forgtten Rococco and Miksani (last chance!)
Some of our own past Pret a porter collections will be among the discounted goods. We are predicting mania. Thankfully, otherwise we may just freeze. If you are coming and want even better prices, bring a nip of whisky or gin to help us warm our cockles, and we’ll see what we can do….
